Perry also runs into an old girlfriend (Judy Greer), now Joan Jett’s manager (the legendary rocker makes a cameo appearance), who tries to rekindle their romance. In Ordinary World, Billie Joe Armstrong plays a character some might wish he would inhabit for real: a former musician whos moved on. I was flabbergasted to realize that it was being offered to us as something that happens in Perry’s real world.An unexpected windfall prompts Perry to impulsively rent the presidential suite at an upscale hotel and throw a party for himself and his friends, including a former bandmate (Fred Armisen) who’s still angry that their band’s “temporary hiatus” has lasted well over a decade. But today is the big 4-0, and Perry is going to throw himself a wild rock-star sort of party in a fancy hotel in Manhattan, which he can manage because he is momentarily flush from the thousand bucks cash his brother (Chris Messina: Manglehorn, Alex of Venice) has just handed to him, just because, and even though Perry is utterly useless in helping to run the family hardware store (which is ostensibly now his job). ![]() That level of immature incompetence is just a normal day for Perry.
